First CD Recording of a Work by Johannes X. Schachtner

The adaptations of the young Bavarian composer Johannes X. Schachtner, for example of works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Johann Sebastian Bach, contribute significantly to the success of this composer alongside his numerous own compositions. Now the internationally renowned cellist Julius Berger and pianist Oliver Kern have brought out the first CD release of a Schachtner work on the Nimbus Alliance label. This is the striking work “ich schrei aus tiefer Not“. Relief No. 3 for violoncello and piano (freely based on the Prelude, BWV 686 of Johann Sebastian Bach) of 2013.

Schachtner writes the following:
“The composition for violoncello and piano – freely based on the Organ Prelude, BWV 686 – is based on Bach’s original text, with few exceptions. However, a texture and dramaturgy all its own is created through deletions, sudden stops, special instrumentation and sustaining individual notes.“

The album with the first work by Johannes X. Schachtner issued on CD is entitled “Inspired by Bach“.
