British Premiere: Vladimir Yurovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in Birmingham

The Central England Ensemble under the director of Lee Armstrong will perform the British premiere of Vladimir Yurovsky’s Symphony No. 5 at the Carrs Lane Church Centre in Birmingham on 21 June 2015.

This concert is being presented to celebrate Vladimir Yurovsky’s centennial year. The composer was born on 7 March 1915 and would therefore have turned 100 this year. Yurovsky died on 26 January 1972.

The cpo label just recently issued a new CD (cpo 777 875-2) including the Symphony No. 5 composed in 1971 and the symphonic pictures “Russian Painters” (1959), recorded by the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Yurovsky’s Son, Mikhail Yurovsky. Both works are amongst to his important compositions.
