New Work by Moritz Eggert at Protestant Church Congress 2015

The 2015 German Protestant Church Congress will be held from 3 to 7 June in Stuttgart. During the course of a widely varied cultural programme, the world premiere of Moritz Eggert’s new work “Vom Himmel und der ganzen Welt” for boys’ choir a cappella will be given on 5 June 2015 in the cappella at Christuskirche (Gänsheide) in Stuttgart. The Stuttgart Hymnus-Chorknaben will present the “Deutsche Messe” (German Mass) under the direction of Rainer Johannes Homburg. The work was commissioned by the Stuttgart Hymnus-Chorknaben.

Moritz Eggert comments on his new work as follows:
“It was certainly a challenge to compose a new ‘Deutsche Messe’ (German Mass) in the Lutheran sense - a Mass relating to the place of performance and to the motto of the 2014 Church Congress (‘Damit wir klug werden’ - so that we shall become wise).
“In proceeding to write the work, an important idea for me was an unconventional treatment of the prescribed text passages and the traditional meaning of the given sections. Essentially, in my piece ‘Vom Himmel und der ganzen Welt’, the subject is an individual growing up (becoming wiser) from the wild, childlike-anarchic beginning (as in the Prologue) to the wisdom and tenderness of age (Credo). I wanted to avoid superficial affectedness and the pose of humility; instead I wished to strike a new tone that would make the content of the texts appear emotionally authentic as well.”
