The Russian-American pianist and composer Lera Auerbach has recently completed a new version, for saxophone quartet and children’s choir, of her 2013 work “Gallows Songs” for saxophone quartet and women’s choir. The Raschèr Saxophone Quartet and the Dresden Philharmonic Children’s Choir will present the world premiere of this new version on 9 May 2015 during the course of the concert “Setze mir ein Denkmal, ganz aus Zucker, tief im Meer” under the direction of Prof. Gunter Berger at the Dresden Frauenkirche.

In addition, the original version premiered in Cologne in 2013 will be given its Swiss premiere in Zurich four days prior to this, on 5 May 2015. The performers there will be the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet and the Zurich Sing-Akademie. Tim Brown will conduct the performance at the Kirche auf der Egg.

Lera Auerbach’s work “Gallows Songs” was commissioned by the WDR Radio Choir, the KorVest in Bergen, the Philomela Choir in Helsinki and the Zurich Sing-Akademie.
