German Premiere: Symphonic Poem No. 2 by Galina Ustvolskaya

Galina Ustvolskaya’s Symphonic Poem No. 2, premiered in 1959, will be given its German premiere at a concert organised by the Landesmusikrat Berlin e.V. (Provincial Music Council of Berlin) on 6 April 2015 at the Berlin Konzerthaus. Alongside works by Alexander Glazunov, Franz Strauss and Peter Tchaikovsky, the Landesjugendorchester Berlin will present this orchestral work under the direction of Lancelot Fuhry.

The Russian composer Galina Ustvolskaya, who died in 2006, is one of the most fascinating and unusual composers of modern times. Characteristic of her oeuvre is a consistent concentration on sound, expression and rhythmic language, connected with a special evocation of God. Her catalogue of works primarily contains compositions for smaller ensembles. These, however, are highly idiosyncratic.
