New Organ Work: “Nocturne – Relief No. 4” by Johannes X. Schachtner

The composer Johannes X. Schachtner will be at the centre of focus at the Night of Open Churches in Gauting at the church St. Benedikt on 18 October 2014. The highlight of the concert will be the world premiere of his solo work “Nocturne – Relief No. 4” for organ, composed in 2014 and dedicated to Susanne Zimmerer. The organist will be Konstantin Esterl, who has already performed many organ works by the Munich composer in the past.

“Nocturne” is Schachtner’s fourth Relief after “ertastet” for flute, violin, guitar harp and positive organ, "abtasten" for organ (manualiter) and "ich schrei aus tiefer Not" for violoncello and piano.

At the concert at the Kirche St. Benedikt, listeners will also hear Schachtner's works “abtasten - Relief No. 2” for organ, “Ave Maria” for mixed choir, presented by the St. Benedikt Chamber Choir, and the “Hohe Lied der Liebe” for mixed choir and organ.

The Bavarian composer Johannes X. Schachtner will soon be awarded the 2014 Bavarian Cultural Furtherance Prize in the category of “Music and Dance”. The awards ceremony will be held on 3 November 2014 and presided over by the Bavarian Minister of State Dr. Ludwig Spaenle.
