Davos Festival 2014 - Young Artists in Concert

This year’s Davos Festival will take place from 2 to 16 August 2014; for the first time, its artistic director will be Reto Bieri. The motto of the Festival is “Halt auf Verlangen” (Stop on Request). The composer in residence will be the Armenian composer Tigran Manssurian, who will attend the Festival personally and rehearse his compositions with the young artists being invited to Davos.

Giya Kancheli’s “A little Daneliade” for violin, piano, strings and percussion will given its Swiss premiere during the course of the opening concert on 2 August 2014.

On the initiative of Michael Haefliger, the present director of the Lucerne Festival, the Davos Festival was founded in the summer of 1986 as a platform for young, highly gifted musicians from all over the world. The young stars have come from all corners of the earth ever since, transforming Davos into a Mecca of chamber music during two weeks every summer. Within just a few years the Davos Festival–Young Artists in Concert grew into an important event with up to 25 individual events attracting worldwide attention in the musical world and in the national and international media.
