“Why?” - New Concerto by Gubaidulina Given World Premiere in Italy

Recently, the Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina, who lives near Hamburg, has completed a new Concerto for flute, clarinet and string orchestra with the title “Why?”. The world premiere takes place on 22 July 2014 at the Abbey of San Mercuriale in Forlì (Emilia Romagna) in Italy. The soloists are Massimo Mercelli (flute) and Riccardo Crocilla (clarinet) while the Esthonian conductor Andres Mustonen is directing the orchestra Filharmonica ‘900 del Teatro Regio di Torino.

Moreover several performances will take place on 23 July in Cividale del Friuli (Italy), on 24 July in Ljubljana (Slovenia), 6/7 September in Mexico City, on 20 September in Ravello and on 1 October in Minsk at the Bashmet Festival. The Amsterdam Sinfonietta will present the concert in the Netherlands on November 9 (Den Bosch), 12 (Utrecht), 13 (Amsterdam) and 14 (Nijmegen), while the Staatskapelle Dresden present the German premiere of “Why?” on 20 April 2015 in Dresden.

“Why?” is a commissioned work by the music festivals of Emilia Romagna, Ljubljana, Ravello and the Canary Islands, by Festival Pianistico di Brescia e Bergamo, Fondazione Arena di Verona, Staatskapelle Dresden and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta supported by The Eduard van Beinum Foundation.
