Alexander Raskatov: Opera “A Dog’s Heart” Receives “Prix de la Critique 2014”

The association of French theatre, music and dance critics (Le Syndicat de la Critique Théâtre, Musique et Danse) has announced that the production of the opera “A Dog’s Heart” by the Russian composer Alexander Raskatov at the Opéra National de Lyon (premiere: 20 January 2014) has been awarded the “Prix de la Critique 2014” for the best French premiere of the 2013/2014 season. The awards ceremony will take place on 23 June 2014 at the Théâtre de la Colline in Paris.

The opera “A Dog’s Heart” received its world premiere on 7 June 2010 in Amsterdam and is based on a subject by Mikhail Bulgakov that tells of a medical experiment with consequences. A surgeon specialising in rejuvenating operations places organs of a deceased criminal into a stray dog and finds himself facing the unexpected reactions of his test object. Raskatov’s opera has had numerous performances in different countries and is considered one of the most successful contemporary operas.
