Grigori Frid’s Piano Quintet Given German Premiere

There will be an exclusively Russian programme presented at a concert on 14 March 2014 at the Kempten Municipal Theatre by the pianist Oliver Triendl and the Atrium String Quartet, an ensemble founded in St. Petersburg that has won many awards.

At “Meisterkonzert_5”, alongside works of Alexander Borodin and Peter Tchaikovsky, Grigori Frid’s Piano Quintet, Op. 72 will be given its German premiere. The Quintet for piano and strings was composed in 1981.

Frid, who was born in 1915 in Petrograd (St. Petersburg), died in Moscow on 22 September 2012, exactly on his 97th birthday. Amongst other works, he was the composer of one of the most frequently performed present-day chamber operas – “The Diary of Anne Frank”.
