Finnish Premiere: Lera Auerbach‘s “Gallows Songs” in Helsinki

The choral work “Gallows Songs” for saxophone quartet and women’s choir, composed in 2013 by the Russian-American pianist and composer Lera Auerbach, will be given its Finnish premiere on 29 March 2014. The Finnish choir “Philomela” and the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet conducted by Marjukka Riihimäki will present the work at the renowned Musiikkitalo (House of Music) in Helsinki.

The Raschèr Saxophone Quartet already performed the world premiere of the work together with the women of the WDR Radio Choir under the direction of Nicholas Kok on 28 May 2013 in Cologne.

This work was commissioned jointly by the WDR Radio Choir, the KorVest in Bergen, the Philomela Choir in Helsinki and the Zurich Sing-Akademie.
