Johannes X. Schachtner: World Premieres and Local Premieres in February 2014

At the beginning of 2014 there is already a whole series of premieres of new works by the young Bavarian composer Johannes X. Schachtner.

On 4 February 2014 the two works Kammermusik No. 2 and “Lunula II” as well as the art song “Gretchen im Zwinger” for soprano and organ by Schachtner will be given their German premieres at a portrait concert in Augsburg. The performers will be students of the Augsburg violoncello class of Professor Julius Berger and Konstantin Esterl, organ. In addition, students of the percussion class of Stefan Blum will perform the world premiere of “Invention I” for three percussions by Schachtner. The composer himself will be the soloist in the world premiere of his Humoresque for piano, to be given on 12 February 2014 in Neuperlach.

Another world premiere will take place at the Rococo Festival Hall of the Administration of Swabia in the Fronhof / Augsburg on 15 February 2014. Schachtner's work “volks/lied/kunst II” for bass-baritone and piano will receive its world premiere in cooperation with the Interdisciplinary Forum for Artistic Interpretation and Master Music Mediation in Augsburg.

Schachtner comments on “volks/lied“kunst II” as follows:
“’In einem kühlen Grunde’ was one of my favourite songs when I was a child. It was only later that I learned that the text is by Joseph von Eichendorff and, still later, that the melody is by Friedrich Glück. I was nonetheless stimulated to attempt a new setting although the melody and text are inextricably connected. I tried to compose my own interpretation but consciously with the integration of the ‘original version’: thus I see my composition as being in the tradition of late-romantic song adaptations – such as those by Max Reger, for example.”
