World Premiere by Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf’s ”Hommage à Daniel Libeskind Volume III”

The Freiburg “ensemble aventure” will perform the world premiere of Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf’s “Homage à Daniel Libeskind Volume III” for six players on 9 November 2013 in Tosterglope during the course of a concert entitled “Innen und Außen, Seele und Raum” (Inside and Outside, Soul and Space).
With its point of departure in Hegel’s ambivalent characterisation of music as an art “of subjective intimacy” through a “withdrawal into one's own inner freedom” – with a corresponding loss of “general human interest in art” and free cultural function (Hegel, Aesthetics, Bassenge Edition, p. 266 ff.) – the subject of the programme of the “ensemble aventure” is two currents of the New Music of the 20th and 21st centuries that refute Hegel: music as the language of the soul and music as sculpture, resonating edification of internal time and external space. The concert unmasks these opposites as “unequal equations” (Z. Gedizlioglu): in sculptural music, too, the soul flourishes, and true intimacy enters into the space of general interest in art. Artistic freedom and freedom of art presuppose each other. (Wolfgang Rüdiger – ensemble aventure)

Mahnkopf’s “Hommage à Daniel Libeskind Volume II” was composed in 2012 and premiered on 8 December 2012 by the “Ensemble SurPlus” in Freiburg; in 2002 Mahnkopf wrote “Hommage à Daniel Libeskind Volume I” (world premiere: 22 November 2002 in Cologne, “ensemble recherche”).
