Russian Chamber Music Festival 2013 with Focus on Mieczyslaw Weinberg

The Russian Chamber Music Festival will take place in Hamburg for the fourth time this year. A total of nine concerts will be offered from 28 August to 25 September 2013 at various performance venues, including the Hamburg Laeiszhalle, the Kulturkirche in Altona and the Miralles Saal of the Hamburg Youth Music School on Mittelweg. At the focus of this year's programme will be the Polish Russian composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg. The Russian pianist Elisavety Blumina has now met with the two directors, Gebhardt Dietsch and Mathias Meyer, of this highly committed festival organised by the association “Musikförderung e.V.“”

“I would like to invite listeners”, says Blumina, “to rediscover with us unjustly forgotten composers from the Eastern European region, surely including gems and rarities of Russian music! (...) This project has attracted much international attention, already during its initial phase, which is why the idea suggested itself to me to also place emphasis on the composer Weinberg - Shostakovich's most important companion - at our festival. I am delighted that we have been able to engage many wonderful musicians. These include Ivan Monighetti, the charismatic Rostropovich pupil, Itamar Zorman, the winner of the last Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Mara Mednik and Hans-Udo Heinzmann, long-time professors at the Hamburg Music Academy and solo wind players of the Berlin Staatskapelle as well as extraordinary young musicians such as Roman Kim and Evgeni Petrichev.”
