World Premiere: “Tranquillo“ by Giya Kancheli at the Festival “Arcus Temporum“ in Hungary

Giya Kancheli’s “Tranquillo” for small ensemble will receive its world premiere on 24 August 2013 at the tenth anniversary of the Festival “Arcus Temporum” (23 to 25 August 2013) in Pannonhalma, Hungary. Kancheli was composer-in-residence at this festival in 2009, and has now written this work for the occasion of the upcoming jubilee.

Pannonhalma is famous for Martinsberg, on which the Benedictine monastery of the same name towers above; Martinsberg Archabbey has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1996. In the basilica of the Archabbey, the ‘Klangforum Wien’ will present various ensemble works alongside Kancheli's “Tranquillo”, including world premieres of works by Bent Sørensen and Helmut Oehring. Sofia Gubaidulina’s “light and darknessl” for organ solo will also be heard, played by László Fassang.
