New Ensemble Piece by Marko Nikodijevic to be Premiered in Mainz

The world premiere of Marko Nikodijevic's “prituri sa planinata / plač, tmina, odjek” for alto, ensemble and electronics will be given at the School of Music in Mainz on 3 May 2013. Noa Frenkel (alto), Michael Acker, Joachim Haas and Thomas Hummel (all sound direction) and the Ensemble Experimental directed by Detlef Heusinger will present the new ensemble piece.

Marko Nikodijevic comments on “prituri sa planinata / plač, tmina, odjek” as follows:
“What would happen if one could create echo and spatial organisation – these characteristics of electronic music – in a more physical way instead of through algorithms? This piece, ‘prituri sa planinata / plač, tmina, odjek’ (buried by a mountain / pain, darkness echo), dedicated to my mother, centres on this question. Echo and spatial organisation are physically created in the interior of the piano and transferred into the space.
The Bulgarian folksong tells the story of two shepherds who were buried alive by a mountain. The first one asks to be freed from the inside of the mountain because his first love is waiting for him. The second one asks for liberation because his old mother is waiting for him. The mountain answers the shepherds that the young lover will mourn until the next day at noon, but the mother will mourn until her grave.”
