Three World Premieres of Lera Auerbach in May 2013

Lera Auerbach’s Trio No. 3 for violin, violoncello and piano was commissioned by the Festival “Les musicales” in Colmar, France, and was composed at the instigation of its artistic director, the cellist Marc Coppey. On 3 May 2013 the work will receive its world premiere during the course of the festival, performed by Coppey together with Liana Gourdjia (violin) and Peter Laul (piano).

Another world premiere will take place on 23 May 2013 in Berkeley (USA). Lera Auerbach’s “Memoria de la luz” will be presented there by the New Century Chamber Orchestra of San Francisco, who also commissioned the work. This composition, written in 2013, is an adaptation of her 2nd String Quartet “Primera luz”.

Then, on 25 May 2013, the third world premiere of an Auerbach work this month will take place in Cologne. Under the direction of Nicholas Kok, the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet together with the women of the WDR Radio Choir will perform the premiere of Lera Auerbach’s “Galgenlieder” (Gallows Songs) for saxophone quartet and women's choir. This work was commissioned jointly by the WDR Radio Choir, the KorVest in Bergen, the Philomela Choir in Helsinki and the Zurich Sing-Akademie.
