World Premiere: Marius Felix Lange`s “Nutcracker’s Nightmare“ in Berlin

The American violinist Hilary Hahn has realised an unusual but clever idea. Because she has long recognised the gigantic potential of the small form of the encore piece, she requested contributions from 27 present-day composers. The cycle “In 27 Pieces: The Hilary Hahn Encores” will gradually be given its world premiere until the end of the 2012/13 season and then recorded on CD.

The result of the entries selected by Hilary Hahn as part of an online contest has now been announced. Marius Felix Lange’s violin piece “Nutcracker’s Nightmare” was among the ten best-placed entries. On 29 January 2013 Lange’s encore piece will receive it`s world premiere in the Philharmonie in Berlin, the soloists are Hilary Hahn (violin) and Cory Smythe (piano).

Among the composers of this major project already commissioned by Hilary Hahn are the Russian-American composer Lera Auerbach and the Azerbaijani composer Franghiz Ali-Zadeh.
