Premieres of Franghiz Ali-Zadeh’s “Impulse”

The American star violinist Hillary Hahn will present the turkish premiere of Franghiz Ali-Zadeh’s new work “Impulse” on 3 January 2013 in Istanbul. Together with the pianist Cory Smythe, Hahn will perform this chamber work, completed in 2012, in the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall in Istanbul.

The encore piece “Impulse” is part of Hilary Hahn's cycle “In 27 Pieces: The Hilary Hahn Encores”. The violinist had turned to various contemporary composers from whom she requested contributions. The individual encore pieces will be premiered by the violinist successively until the end of the 2012/13 season and then recorded on CD. Lera Auerbach is also one of the composers commissioned in advance by Hilary Hahn for this major project.

The work received it`s world premiere in September 2012 in Rio de Janeiro.

Franghiz Ali-Zadeh’s commentary on her piece “Impulse”:
“Fate has granted me the rare opportunity of collaborating with world stars such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Evelyn Glennie and Yo-Yo Ma. And although they all share an extraordinarily great natural talent, breathtaking technique and charming stage presence, they are, at the same time, all different from each other, each possessing a strongly marked individuality.
But what is the outstanding quality of Hilary Hahn, who has at such a young age joined the ranks of the prominent stars of contemporary interpretational art? When one hears her live, on the station ‘Mezzo’ or on numerous YouTube videos, one comprehends that she is marked by a formidable level of energy. Her interpretations shine with sunny, joyfully colourful emotions; her playing is gripping and thrilling to hear. This young violinist copes with technical difficulties as if she came from another planet, giving virtuoso interpretations of the most complex pieces in the violin repertoire. This deep impression provided the first impetus, the first impulse to write a piece dedicated to her - a piece expressing youthful impetuosity and determination. The slow middle section embodies a sudden memory of childhood - pure visions. But then a storm grabs hold of the movement anew, impetuously driving it to a brilliant, bravura finale, as befits a piece with the title ‘Encore’ for Hilary Hahn.”
