Premieres of Works by Sofia Gubaidulina in Belgium, Poland, Russia and the USA

At the end of the year, in December 2012, there will be four local premieres of works by the Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina.

Gubaidulina's work “Labyrinth” for 12 violoncelli will be given its American premiere at the Harris Theatre in Chicago on 3 December 2012. The cellists of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will perform.

There follows the Polish premiere of the bayan concerto “Fachwerk” performed by Roman Yusipey (bayan) and the INSO Lviv Orchestra conducted by Stanislaw Welanik on 5 December in Krakow.

Another premiere will be given the next day in Liège, Belgium. The Orchestre du Conservatoire Royal de Liège will present the Belgian premiere of “Revuemusik” for symphony orchestra and jazz band on 6 December. The concert is entitled “Jazz Meets Classic”.

Gubaidulina's “The Lyre of Orpheus” for violin, percussion and string orchestra will also celebrate a premiere in December. The Russian premiere will be performed by Thomas Zehetmair (violin) and the Munich Chamber Orchestra in Moscow on 18 December.
