Tigran Mansurian: Concerto for Violin, Violoncello and String Orchestra Given Dutch Premiere

The Amsterdam Sinfonietta, together with Patricia Kopatchinskaya (violin) and Anja Lechner (violoncello), directed by the Scottish conductor Candida Thompson, will perform the Dutch premiere of the Concerto for Violin, Violoncello and String Orchestra by Tigran Mansurian on 6 October 2012 at the Muziekcentrum in Enschede.

Mansurian`s work was written in 1978 and is part of the Triptych written for Karine Georgian, Natalia Gutman and Oleg Kagan, which consists of Mansurian's Concerto for Violoncello and String Orchestra No. 2 (1978), Concerto for Violin, Violoncello and String Orchestra and the Concert for Violin and String Orchestra (1981) being performed.

Although one cannot recognise “any outward signs of a cycle” in these works, according to the composer, they do indeed form a cycle. The works are all rather slow, meditative and at times also dramatic (almost tragic).
