Lera Auerbachs “The Little Mermaid” Receives the Renowned Echo Klassik Award 2012

Lera Auerbach's full-length ballet "The Little Mermaid", which has been choreographed by John Neumeier, received an ECHO Klassik award in October 2012 as the best musical DVD recording of the year. Already praised by the critics as a modern classic, the ballet has been performed 150 times on major stages throughout the world. The ECHO awards ceremony will take place on 14 October 2012 in Munich.

Lera Auerbach was commissioned in 2005 to compose the ballet music "The Little Mermaid" in 2005 by the Royal Danish Ballet and the Hamburg Ballet. During the current season, the work is being presented by the National Ballet of China in Beijing, at the Hamburg State Opera and at the Stanislavsky Theatre in Moscow. Auerbach and Neumeier had already collaborated on the ballet production "Preludes CV" in which Auerbach's 24 Preludes for violin and piano were choreographed in their entirety. This production will be performed again in 2013 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary celebration of the Hamburg Ballet.
