Dresden: German Premiere of the Sonata for Violin and Orchestra of Dmitri Shostakovich / Krzysztof Meyer

Krzysztof Meyer`s Sonata for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 86 of 1995, an adaptation of Dmitri Shostakovich`s Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 134 (1968), will be given its German premiere on 27 September 2012 at the Semperoper in Dresden.

This concert work, premiere in 1996 in Seattle, will be presented by Kai Vogler and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden (Saxon State Orchestra of Dresden) conducted by Michail Jurowski. Shostakovich`s orchestral song “From Yiddish Folk Poetry” and Hans Werner Henze`s “L’heure bleue” will also be performed at this concert.

Gidon Kremer will present the work three days later on 30 September 2012 at the Shostakovich Days in Gohrisch.
