Lera Auerbach’s Ballet “The Little Mermaid” Given Chinese Premiere

The Chinese premiere of Lera Auerbach’s ballet “The Little Mermaid” (Hamburg version) will be given at the Tianqiao Acrobatic Theatre in Beijing on 24 September 2012, performed by the Chinese National Ballet of Beijing.

This ballet, based on the well-known fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen in an ingenious adaptation for dance theatre by the choreographer John Neumeier, was premiered with great success at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, which also commissioned the work during the Andersen Year 2005.

In 2007 Neumeier presented it in a slightly revised version at the Hamburg State Opera, where it has been seen regularly ever since. In March 2010 the San Francisco Ballet took over the Hamburg production of "The Little Mermaid" and will take it up again in March/April 2011 due to its great success. Since February 2011 the ballet is also in the program of the Stanislavsky Theatre in Moscow.

The live recording from San Francisco will be awarded the ECHO Klassik in the category of “Music-DVD Production of the Year” on 14 October.

Further performances will take place at the Tianqiao Theatre on 25/26/27 and 28 September 2012.
