Peter Ruzicka`s “CLOUDS” at the Rheingau Music Festival

The Rheingau Music Festival has been drawing its audience to the region between Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Lorch since 1987. The Festival is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Having begun with a trial run and two concerts in 1987 and having started the first season in 1988 with 19 concerts, it is no longer possible to imagine concert life without the Festival, which today offers nearly 150 concerts at over 40 locations.

One of the highlights this year will surely be the world premiere of Peter Ruzicka's new orchestral work "CLOUDS" in Wiesbaden on 23 August 2012. This work, composed in 2012, will be premiered by the hr Symphony Orchestra directed by the Estonian-born American conductor Paavo Järvi.

Peter Ruzicka on "CLOUDS":
"My music is embarking on a search for an imaginary, remote sound; it approaches this sound without ever completely reaching it. The path towards it leads through clouds of sound: crystalline musical shapes that appear to obstruct the view in various formations and densities. A vehement outbreak of the entire orchestra covers the sonic discourse. Ultimately, we enter fields of memory of past events. Increasingly fragile, musically over-painted shapes line the path. And gradually the music seems to turn back …".

A further performance (new version for big orchestra with string quartet) will take place on 4 May 2013 at the Berlin Philharmonie with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin conducted by Ruzicka himself.
