Marius Felix Lange's Violin Piece selected by Hilary Hahn
The American violinist Hilary Hahn has realised an unusual but clever idea. Because she has long recognised the gigantic potential of the small form of the encore piece, she requested contributions from 27 present-day composers. The cycle "In 27 Pieces: The Hilary Hahn Encores" will gradually be given its world premiere until the end of the 2012/13 season and then recorded on CD. Among the composers of this major project already commissioned by Hilary Hahn are the Russian-American composer Lera Auerbach and the Azerbaijani composer Franghiz Ali-Zadeh.
The result of the entries selected by Hilary Hahn as part of an online contest has now been announced. Marius Felix Lange's violin piece "Nutcracker’s Nightmare" was among the ten best-placed entries. Lange has become particularly well known during recent years through the children's opera project "Das Opernschiff oder Am Südpol, denkt man, ist es heiß" to a libretto by Elke Heidenreich.
