Leipzig: World Premiere of Daniel Smutny`s Symphony No. 1 at the “sinwald” Festival

The new Leipzig Festival “sinwald” offers its guests 15 events from 27 to 29 April 2012, selected acts every other hour, each at very special locations.

One looks in vain for big names at this festival because the organisers mostly wish to introduce artists who are not so well known but who are exciting. The music is orientated on the special performance areas, newly written and newly arranged. It ranges from soundwalk, singer-songwriters with poetry, minimal/house with string quartet to electro-pop/trip-hop with large symphony orchestra and trash puppet show with noise-rock to sound-art, Stockhausen and “Sin City” with a new score as well as a flash-mob with percussion.

The artistic director of the Festival is the young, Mannheim-born composer Daniel Smutny. The composer wrote his Symphony No. 1 for “sinwald” - the work will be given its world premiere during the course of the festival on 27 April 2012. It is part of the orchestral concert (consisting of three works) with the MDR Symphony Orchestra directed by Torodd Wigum, which also includes “Agonia” by the Catalonian composer Ferran Cruixent.
