Content:

English and Spanish sailors are drinking at a harbour pub in Ramsgate. They are awaiting the appearance of the popular singer Amy. Meanwhile the painter Romney has arrived with Kitty (whom he jealously watches over) and the English Ambassador Sir Hamilton. Attracted by Kitty’s beauty, the naval officers Percy and Alfredo have also come. While Percy flirts with Kitty, much to Romney’s irritation, Alfredo falls in love with Amy, whose performance leads to a fight with the sailors in which he stands up for the singer. But when he must realise that she is a thief, he turns away from her in full contempt. Amy is very hurt and now accepts Sir Hamilton’s invitation to accompany him. He must keep her hidden in his palace in Naples, however, so as not to compromise himself. Amy finally succeeds in becoming the legitimate Lady Hamilton. Alfredo has been taken prisoner through Lord Nelson after the conspiracy of Toulon has been defeated; she manages to free him and to win Nelson’s love.
