“Episodes I“ by Johannes X. Schachtner Premiered in Bad Reichenhall

After the world premieres of the works "Capricietto" for trombone quartet and "Cherubiniana" for chamber ensemble on 10 October 2011 in Munich and on 11 October 2011 in Bamberg, the third world premiere of a new work by Johannes X. Schachtner will take place in Bad Reichenhall just one week later.

On 18 October 2011, Schachtner's "Episodes I" for horn and string quartet will be given its world premiere in the Konzertrotunde at the Kurgarten in Bad Reichenhall. Cora Stiehler (violin), Fred Ullrich (violin/viola), Thorsten Köpke (viola) and Roman Senicky (violoncello), all members of the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic, will present the new chamber work together with Stefan Kresin (horn).

The new version for horn and string quartet replaces the original 2006 version of the work for woodwind quartet.

"Episodes I" were written during the course of Johannes X. Schachtner's residency with the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic.

The composer comments on his work as follows:
"The chamber work "Episodes I" for woodwind quartet was composed in 2006 from several sketches to an originally planned 'classical' song setting of Hermann Hesse's poem 'Im Nebel’ (In the Fog). In 2011 I conceived several ideas anew and transferred the work to the rare but stimulating ensemble of horn and string quartet.

Whilst working on it, the Hesse poem was still on the horizon in a shadowy way. But this time, it was rather single words that pressed forward to the foreground: seltsam - einsam - voll von Freuden war mir die Welt (strange - lonely - the world was full of joy for me)."
