Sofia Gubaidulina – a Festival on Her 80th Birthday

Sofia Gubaidulina, one of the most important composers of our time, is celebrating her 80th birthday this year. On this occasion the artist, who lives in Northern Germany, will be honoured with a week-long festival in Hannover from 9 until 13 November 2011 during the course of which outstanding artists and ensembles will be performing. Among them are Anne-Sophie Mutter, Igor Levit, Elsbeth Moser, the Szymanowski Quartet, the Hannover Boys' Choir and the NDR Radio Philharmonic under principal conductor Eivind Gullberg Jensen. Sofia Gubaidulina, in whose artistic life the city of Hannover plays an important role, will be present at the Festival.

The NDR Radio Philharmonic is organising the Gubaidulina Festival together with the Academy of Music, Theatre and Media in Hannover, the Lower Saxony Foundation, the Lower Saxon Savings Bank Foundation, the Hannover Savings Bank and Music Land Lower Saxony. Alongside the concerts, numerous additional events will supplement the Gubaidulina Festival, including live conversations with the composer, educational projects, a cinema evening, a symposium and many others.
