Romanian Premiere of Peter Ruzicka's H÷LDERLIN SYMPHONY in Timisoara

Peter Ruzicka's HÖLDERLIN SYMPHONY will receive its Romanian premiere on 4 September 2011 in Timisoara. The baritone Stefan Ignat will present the vocal-symphonic work together with the Arad Philharmonic Choir and the Timisoara "Banat" Philharmonic. Ruzicka will conduct the work himself, as he already did at the celebrated premiere in October 2010 during the course of the Beijing Music Festival. There, the China Philharmonic Orchestra together with the baritone Thomas Bauer and the Choir of the Central Opera House of China presented the world premiere of the HÖLDERLIN SYMPHONY, created immediately after the opera HÖLDERLIN and containing essential symphonic portions of the opera as well as four scenes for baritone and orchestra.

On Friedrich Hölderlin, who lived from 1770 until 1843, Ruzicka comments as follows: "I do not know any poet whose significance for us today, at the outset of a spiritually influenced 21st century, is similarly relevant and meaningful." When directly comparing the HÖLDERLIN music to his first opera CELAN, however, Ruzicka remarked: "It has a different basic sound, darker, probably also more flowing, surging. Before I began the score of the opera, I wrote a preparatory orchestral piece entitled VORECHO. (...) It is my impression that the sound space is at any rate deeper, still more widened."
