Giya Kancheli: World Premiere of ”Chiaroscuro“ in Reggio Emilia

"Chiaroscuro" is a work commissioned by the 9th International String Quartet Competition "Premio Paolo Borciani" 2011, at which the Georgian composer Giya Kancheli will be a member of the jury. Kancheli's new work for string quartet will receive its world premiere during the course of the eight-day event.

This year the competition will be held from 12 to 19 June 2011. The organiser is the "Fondazione I Teatri" in Reggio Emilia with the cellist Mario Brunello as artistic director.

Since its founding in 1987 up to the present day, the competition has matured into one of the most prestigious in the world. It is held every three years in the North Italian city of Reggio Emilia. It is dedicated to Paolo Borciani, the famous founder and first violinist of the Quartetto Italiano.
