Irish Premiere of Tigran Mansurian's “Concerto No. 1 for Violin and String Orchestra”

The Irish premiere of Tigran Mansurian's "Concerto No. 1 for Violin and String Orchestra" will take place at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival in Bantry on 28 June 2011.

This work by the Armenian composer was written in 1981 and is part of the Triptych written for Karine Georgian, Natalia Gutman and Oleg Kagan, which consists of Mansurian's "Concerto for Violoncello and String Orchestra No. 2, Concerto for Violin, Violoncello and String Orchestra (both from the year 1978) and this Concert for Violin and String Orchestra being performed.

Although one cannot recognise "any outward signs of a cycle" in these works, according to the composer, they do indeed form a cycle. The works are all rather slow, meditative and at times also dramatic (almost tragic).

The concert will take place at St. Brendan's Church in Bantry in southwest Ireland. The violinist Fanny Clamagirand will be the soloist with the Irish Chamber Orchestra directed by Katherine Hunka.
