Lera Auerbach: World Premiere of the String Sextet ”Seraphim Canticles“ in New York

Lera Auerbach, born in 1973 in Chelyabinsk (Ural), moved to the USA in the early 1990s where she still lives today, in New York and Florida.

The world premiere of her String Sextet "Seraphim Canticles" will take place at the Alice Tully Hall (Lincoln Centre) in her chosen home city of New York on 10 April 2011. This work, commissioned by "Music Accord," will be performed by Erin Keefe and Yura Lee (both violins), Beth Gutgerman and Paul Neubader (both violas) and the cellists Nicolas Altstaedt and Fred Sherry.

Lera Auerbach comments on "Seraphim Canticles" as follows:

"This work explores different levels of emotional intensity – from deepest despair to exaltation. It burns with intensity, like Seraph – the six-winged angel, full of terrifying fire. This inner fire needs to be present in the performance to the greatest degree and is the most important aspect of this work."
