World Premiere of Milko Kelemen’s Piano Concerto “Madrigal Rouge” in Kaiserslautern

The German Radio Philharmonic Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, together with the pianist Martina Filjak, will perform the world premiere of Milko Kelemen’s “Madrigal Rouge” in Kaiserslautern on 17 February 2011.

Christoph Poppen will conduct this work commissioned by the German Radio Philharmonic Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern.

Kelemen’s commentary on the 2008 work:

”The basic idea of the piano concerto ‘Madrigal Rouge’ is the breakthrough of a dimension of the colour red that is projected on a large white screen or white wall behind the orchestra towards the end of the composition. I was inspired to do this by the avant-garde painter Mark Rothko and his entirely ‘red’ pictures.
This new dimension of light first appears in my work as a pale pink, then becoming more intensified to a deep red until the end of the piece where the pianist speaks the words ‘Madrigal Rouge’ very loudly (with the amplification of a microphone). After this, only the red screen remains visible for two more bars…
The red light virtually ‘annihilates’ the music sounded before ... a symbol for the end of the world (...)”.

A follow-up performance will take place in Saarlouis on 18 February.
