Baumann, Herbert
*31.07.1925
Alongside numerous orchestral, choral and chamber works, Herbert Baumann has composed the music to over 500 plays and over 40 television films. Born in Berlin in 1925, he acquired his musical technique at the music academy there as a pupil of Paul Höffer and Boris Blacher.
Baumann writes thoroughly accessible, spontaneously fresh music with verve and elegance. Although often in a cheerful idiom, it not infrequently strikes an elegiac tone as well, but nonetheless aims to delight the listener with sonic stimuli and rhythmic wit — in short, it is “moderately modern” music.
