Light Transformed into Sound: World Premiere of Jörn Arnecke’s “Lichtbogen”

The young composer Jörn Arnecke, who hails from Hamelin, first confronted the subject of light refractions in minerals in the work for clarinet, bassoon and orchestra entitled “Crystallisations,” premiered in June 2009 by the Hamburg Philharmonic. Now he has completed a piece entitled “Lichtbogen” (Arc of Light) for orchestra, which will receive its world premiere on 19 February 2010 in Göttingen. Arnecke says that he combines, so to speak, “two electrodes under sufficient voltage. The arc of light bridges a space. It contains an entire spectrum of colours. And the most important thing: it shines!”
