Stuttgart: World Premiere of the 2nd Version of Milko Kelemen’s “Concerto 2000”

The Croatian composer Milko Kelemen has produced a second, slightly shortened version of his orchestral work “Concerto 2000” for soprano, alto, tenor, bass, boys’ voice and orchestra which will receive its world premiere on 7 November 2009 in Stuttgart. The original work was commissioned by the Zagreb Philharmonic and was premiered in Zagreb in 2000.

The Stuttgart Music Academy Orchestra under the direction of Per Borin will present the new piece during the course of the concert series “Panamericana – from Alaska to Patagonia.” The Croatian premiere of this version will take place on 10 March 2010 in Zagreb performed by the “Symphonieorchester des Kroatischen Rundfunks” under the direction of Nikša Bareza).

The composer has supplied the following commentary on his work:
“This is a ‘millennium concerto’ for four vocal soloists, boy’s voice and orchestra. It is a virtual memory of the previous century and a preview of the coming millennium. The bells of Zagreb Cathedral are at the centre of the work as a kind of catharsis. I wanted to combine ethical and aesthetic elements in the hope that everything terrible from the past will not happen again.”
