New at Sikorski: Daniel Smutny

Daniel Smutny, born in Mannheim in 1976, won prizes and awards for his first compositions already in early years.

During his studies with Hans Zender and Bernhard Kontarsky in Frankfurt am Main, he was already receiving invitations from renowned interpreters and organisers such as the Ensemble Modern Forum, the SWR, the Academy of the Arts in Berlin and the International Biennale for New Music. This series of honours for his artistic work continues unabated to the present day.

He won the Stuttgart Composition Prize twice (1998, 2009) made his debut with commissioned works at the Donaueschingen Music Days and the Stuttgart State Opera. In addition, he received the renowned BMW Composition Prize of “musica viva” and commissions from the Klangforum Wien, the SWR Vocal Ensemble and for his first full-length music theatre (Festspielhaus of the European Centre for the Arts in Hellerau). The German Music Council will present a portrait of the music of Daniel Smutny on an Edition CD. Smutny now lives in Leipzig as a freelance composer.
