E.T.A. Hoffmann’s Pater Medardus with Music by Marius Felix Lange
The novel “The Devil’s Elixirs” by E.T.A. Hoffmann was once the basis of the great Romantic writer’s fame; before this first more extensive novel, he had been known instead for smaller short stories. The main character of the book is Father Medardus, who is driven to evil by a diabolical elixir and can no longer control his actions. Marius Felix Lange has created a scene for orchestra entitled MEDARDUS, scheduled to receive its world premiere on 4 October by the New Frankfurt Philharmonic under the direction of Wolfgang Wangenroth.
