Hommage Sofia Gubaidulina

70th Birthday Concert on 9 December 2001

On the occasion of the 70th birthday of the Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina, who has lived near Hamburg since 1991, an Homage Concert took place in the presence of the composer on 9 December 2001 at 7:30 P.M. in the North German Radio's Rolf Liebermann Studio.

Besides selected chamber works of Gubaidulina the programme included works dedicated to her by Peter Michael Hamel, Reinhard David Flender and Viktor Suslin, either world premieres or German first performances. Fortunately, it was possible to engage performers the likes of Elsbeth Moser (bayan), Ivan Monighetti (violoncello), Daniel Hope (violin) and Alexander Suslin (double bass) for this concert - interpreters who are particularly close to the composer and have in some cases taken active part in the dissemination of her music in the world for many years.
