Viktor Suslin's 60th Birthday on 18 June 2002

Viktor Suslin was born in 1942 in Maiss (Ural). He attended the music school in Kharkov from 1950 until 1961, studying piano, later continuing his studies at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow.

He founded the improvisation group ASTREIA in 1975 together with the composers Vyacheslav Artyomov and Sofia Gubaidulina. Since 1979 there have been frequent performances of his works in the West. In the meantime, he has been represented at all of the important international music festivals. In 1981 Suslin and his family emigrated to the Federal Republic of Germany. Since then he has lived as a composer, publisher's editor and instructor at the Lübeck Music Academy near Hamburg. Suslin has twice been awarded the First Diploma of the All Union Competition for Young Composers of the Soviet Union (1961 and 1969), and he received the Cultural Prize of the District of Pinneberg in 1990.
