Arvo Pärt Portrait in Nordrhein-Westfalen

The Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, who has lived in Berlin for the past twenty years, is the subject of an extensive series of concerts at the present time in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Divided into fifteen programmes, the festival comprises 55 concerts in which works from all the composer's creative periods, from solo recitals to large compositions for choir and orchestra, will be performed. Pärt's development from Neoclassicism through dodecaphony and collage technique up to his own "tintinnabulary" style will be demonstrated step by step. The project is being organised by the Cultural Secretary of Nordrhein-Westfalen in Gütersloh. The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and the Hilliard Ensemble of London will be participating. The locations of the series, stretching over the entire 2001/2002 season, are twenty cities in Nordrhein-Westfalen which are members of that province's secretariat.
