It has just been announced from Cannes that the composition "St. John Passion" by Sofia Gubaidulina has received the coveted award in the category of "Best Vocal Recording of the 19th and 20th Centuries." Moreover, Sofia Gubaidulina has been honoured with the title "Best Contemporary Composer." The same work was multiply nominated for a Grammy just a few weeks previously.

The official awards ceremony festivities took place on 20 January in the Palais du Festivals in Cannes.
