Peter Ruzicka's "Celan" in Mainz and Darmstadt - the Accompanying Programme

The premiere of Peter Ruzicka's "Celan," music theatre in seven scenes, at the Mainz State Theatre is being surrounded by an extensive accompanying programme. Already two months prior to the premiere, which will take place on 29 March 2003, chamber music of Peter Ruzicka was presented in the Orchestersaal des Kleinen Hauses on 9 February 2003. On 16 February 2003 (11 o'clock) the SonnTalkmorgen (Sunday Morning Talk) will take place with Prof. Ruzicka in conversation with Jrgen Zllner, Cultural Minister of Rheinland-Pfalz, on the subject of cultural sponsoring. "Nothing but Language Around Me" is the title of the introductory matinee to the premiere of "Celan" with conductor Catherine Rckwardt, producer and designer Gottfried Pilz and the composer on 23 March 2003 (11 o'clock). On the same day at 8 o'clock P.M. there will be a reading at the Villa Musica Mainz in the series entitled "Literature and Music," with Hans-Michael Rehberg introducing selected texts and poems of Paul Celan. Chamber music of Gustav Mahler and Peter Ruzicka will be performed by the Philharmonic Quartet and Christoph Keymer at the piano. Christel Bak-Stalter will open her exhibition of paintings and drawings on the subject of "Celan" one day prior to the premiere, at 6 o'clock P.M. in the foyer of the Groes Haus. A composer portrait will follow at 8 o'clock, during which Peter Glke will lead a podium discussion with Ruzicka; the Philharmonic Quartet with Ates Yilmaz (clarinet) will present chamber music by the composer. A half-hour introductory event will take place before the premiere and at all other performances, always one half hour before the given concert. On 30 March 2003 Prof. Theo Buck, one of the leading Celan researchers, will introduce his new book "Celan and France" at the Maison de France at 11 o'clock A.M.

The premiere of the opera "Celan" will take place at the Mainz State Theatre, the co-producing theatre, on 12 June 2003.
