International Chamber Music Festival in Umeå

Giya Kancheli, along with the Swiss crossover composer Daniel Schnyder, will be composer in residence at this year's International Chamber Music Festival in Umeå from 11 until 16 June 2004. The following works of Kancheli will be performed:

11 June

"Evening Prayers" for soprano saxophone, strings and tape

"Magnum ignotum" for chamber ensemble and tape (Black Box Band)

14 June

"Visit to Childhood" for oboe, piano, bass guitar and strings (Bart Schneemann, oboe, Norrlands Opera Symphony Orchestra, cond. Kristjan Järvi)

16 June

"Little Imber" for solo voice, boys' choir (tape), mixed choir and chamber ensemble (Mamuka Gaganidse, voice) Sångkraft Chamber Choir; members of the Norrlands Opera Symphony Orchestra, cond. Kristjan Järvi)

Moreover, Arvo Pärt's cello concerto "Pro et Contra," from our catalogue, will be performed on 14 June by Borislav Strulev (violoncello) and the Norrlands Opera Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kristjan Järvi.

Giya Kancheli will be present on each performance day and introduce himself to the public in a podium discussion on 12 June.
