New Chinese Music at Sikorski: Wenchen Qin

Alongside Xiaoyong Chen, Sikorski Music Publishers have now taken on another important Chinese composer. Wenchen Qin, born in 1966 in Erdos, Inner Mongolia, already received instruction in Chinese folk music at the age of nine. Starting in 1987 he studied at the Shanghai Conservatory in the composition classes of Xu Shuja and Zhu Jinaer. Since 1992 he has himself been teaching at the renowned Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, a post he still occupies at present.

Wenchen Qin is one of the most important composers in contemporary Chinese music. He has worked for and with leading new music ensembles such as Ensemble Recherche, LEnsemble Itineraire, Ensemble Europa Antidogma, Tokyo City Symphony Orchestra and the Nieuw Ensemble Holland.

His chamber music works, especially for wind instruments, string and percussion instruments, also include Chinese instruments.
