Galina Ustvolskaya Comes to Hamburg

The grande dame of the Russian avant garde, the 86-year-old composer and Shostakovich contemporary Galina Ustvolskaya, is coming to a chamber concert at the Hamburg Music Seminar organised by the Belaieff Foundation on 19 May 2006. This will be one of the rare occasions in the world at which it will be possible to personally encounter this extraordinary woman.

A concert has been planned with the soloists Alexei Lyubimov (piano), Vladimir Anohim (violin) and Kyrill Rybakov (clarinet). The following works will be on the programme: 5th and 6th Piano Sonatas, Clarinet Trio and Duet for Violin and Piano.

Immediately following her stay in Hamburg, the composer will travel on to Zurich, where the Studio for New Music of the Zurich Music Academy is organising a chamber music portrait for Galina Ustvolskaya on 22/23 May 2006 entitled essential in independence.
