Lera Auerbach Events

The Russian-American composer Lera Auerbach feels at home in Bremen. For the meantime, until September 2006, she will be serving as composer-in-residence there. Her works continue to be performed all over the world. She composed her String Quartet No. 2 (Primordial Light) to a commission from the Cuenca Festival; it will receive its premiere performance by the Tokyo String Quartet on 8 April 2006 in Cuenca, Spain. During this month, a new CD album of works by Lera Auerbach and Dmitri Shostakovich on the Swedish label BIS has been planned for release. This will contain Auerbachs Violin Sonata No. 2 with the subtitle The 11th of September as well as her Lonely Suite for violin and piano.

The composer has made a Piano Suite from her ballet music The Little Mermaid premiered during the spring of the Andersen year 2005. This work will be premiered by Lera Auerbach herself on 15 May 2006 in the Bonn Arithmeum.

The composer/pianist is presently planning a complete recording of the piano works of Alfred Schnittke on the BIS label (as part of the Schnittke Complete Edition). Moreover, she has recorded her own works 24 Preludes, Ten Dreams and Chorale, Fugue and Postlude for a CD to be released during the course of the year.

An outstanding event in the autumn of 2006 will be the premiere of Lera Auerbachs Symphony No. 1 on 10, 12 and 13 November by the Dsseldorf Symphony Orchestra in the Great Hall of the Dsseldorf Tonhalle under the direction of Music Director John Fiore. This work was commissioned by the Dsseldorf Symphony Orchestra.
