Ulrich Leyendecker about "Evocazione":

I composed Evocazione from December 2005 until March 2006. It was given its world premiere in May by the Southwest German Radio Orchestra in Kaiserslauten under the direction of Per Borin.

The title Evocazione, or evocations is meant here in a compositional sense, and also mystically in an extra-musical sense of “conjuring up.”

Three musical excerpts from the commander scene in Mozart’s Don Giovanni form the basis for the compositional development. Naturally these elements are completely in my musical language and translated into my own expression.

It is a conjuring-up that comes to pass in spacious arches, contrasts, compact repetitions and agglomerations, the disintegration of which is the brief flashing up of the Mozart quotation. The “magic formula” which simultaneously symbolises the appearance of the Stone Guest…

The Mozart quotation leads – formally retrograded – back into the opening themes, thus rounding off the large formal arch.
